The Pasadena Police Foundation was founded in 1992 to foster involvement of the Pasadena community with its Police Department. The Board of Directors of the Foundation is comprised of community leaders representing the rich diversity of Pasadena. The purpose of the Foundation is to promote and fund programs that further the goals of the Police Department to supplement the city’s general fund.

Goals

  • Works to improve communications between the Pasadena Police Department and the community.

  • To be an advocate for the Pasadena Police Department in the community.

  • Serves as a resource to the Chief of Police for community issues or concerns.

  • Raises funds to support youth programs developed by the Pasadena Police Department.

  • Provides a tax-exempt organization for the receipt of gifts and grants to benefit police programs.

Board Involvement

Many members of the Foundation Board also serve as volunteers in police-sponsored events and programs. In addition, the Foundation sponsors an annual event, the Chief’s Breakfast, designed to inform the community of the goals and accomplishments of the Pasadena Police Department and to raise funds for the programs supported by the Pasadena Police Foundation.

“The Pasadena Police Department is very fortunate to benefit from a philanthropic Foundation which provides an invaluable service to the youth of our community and the men and women of our department.”

John E. Perez|  Chief of Police

Since its inception, the Foundation has accomplished various projects including the first K-9 unit in Pasadena, and many police-sponsored programs involving Pasadena youth, such as the Kids Safety Academy, the Junior Public Safety Academy, the Summer Youth Leadership conference and the Every 15 Minutes DUI awareness program (see video.) The motto “Helping Cops Give Kids Hope” was adopted as best describing the mission of the Pasadena Police Foundation.

In addition to raising money by individual donations, the board has actively sought and obtained funds from various charitable foundations through grant applications.
